Assertion failed error

but considering nobody's posted in that one in a long time I figured I'd make another one.

Nothing in that thread has worked for me. I've tried three different routers, I'm absolutely sure it's not a port issue. My hosts file is also completely fine. It's not my connection, as I've played against the same person over a hundred matches in a row with no problems at all, it's just every once in a while this error appears and completely refuses to let me play against anyone, and it's driving me crazy.

Is this just an issue with GGPO's servers? Other than the thread I linked, I don't see anyone else having this problem, so what's up?

I heard once that it might be caused by your opponent leaving the ggpofba.exe running after you have exited a game with them.
Next time it happens, try disconnecting and reconnecting your Internet.
If you have a dynamic IP, it will hopefully drop the connection.
